Home Security Cameras: Catching The Bad Guys In The Act

You may decide to install home security cameras for a variety of reasons. You can conceal them and use them to monitor what happens in your home during your absence; of example, if you want to know what your kids or babysitter are up to while you’re away. Or you can have them in plain view on the exterior of your home, to serve as a deterrent to potential intruders.
Whatever your intent when installing home security cameras, however, you need to make certain they will provide clear images even after dark; they will be of little use if you are unable to tell whether that rustling noise outside the living room window is a clumsy raccoon, or a home invader waiting in the bushes for your family to retire for the night.
If your interest tends toward keeping track of the household help–the nanny or babysitter, for instance–micro spy home security cameras are ideal. Their small size allows you to tuck them away inside floral arrangements or other hiding places from which they will record the interactions between the household staff and your children, pets, refrigerator, valuables, and uninvited guests.
For protection against home intrusion, however, you need more sophisticated home security cameras. You’ll want weatherproof home security cameras with night vision capability which can track movements invisible to the human eye. You can complement two or three functional exterior home security cameras with several more fake ones, to discourage home intruders even more. By using phony cameras to bulk up your home security you’ll cut down on its costs.
Most home security cameras are linked to a home alarm, which will react to either auditory or visual triggers. These home alarm systems respond to unexpected movement in the areas where they are located, and will both activate a sound alarm to scare off intruders, and provide instant notification to local law enforcement.
With home security cameras working to protect your home, you’ll have a filmed record of any intruders should they escape before the police arrive. This record will be invaluable in helping find the intruders and can be used against them if they end up on trial. Not only will home security cameras act as very powerful deterrents and save your home from becoming a target for invasion; they will assist in identifying the culprits if you are invaded, and may even lead to the recovery of your property.
Security cameras are usually integrated with an alarm system. The alarm systems can be activated by either visual or auditory signals. Alarm sensors used in conjunction with security cameras are tripped by unnecessary movement in protected areas. Usually, the alarms are all connected to a security system that provides triggers to the sound alarm and immediate notification to the police headquarters.
If ever the criminals have escaped police arrest, the recorded video will provide lead for the identification of the criminals. The home security cameras not only serve as protection but have been established as reliable evidence in court. That is why home security cameras are usually the first choice of home defense available for a homeowner; they not only give a true picture of what is happening but can also give enough fear to would-be criminals or thieves.

Indoor home security cameras-how do they record video images?
I mean, what do they record onto, can they record onto your computer hardrive? I need to set up two cameras of my living room and den to record 24 hours a day, I don’t want to be changing tapes all the time or have the kind that records over on the same tape all the time. How can I do this?

You need to get one of these:

They are vandall proof. The cases are hard and can withstand a hammer. Wireless cameras are cool, but aren't worth the money.
These guys have a pretty good price too. Also, I called, cause I found one camera with a better price, and they beat it for me. The thing you'll need to know is that you can't just buy a security camera, you'll need to buy a DVR or recording device that you can plug them into.
You need an IP camera. They don't even require a computer to be on. Panasonic makes the best with pan/zoom for about $1000. Dlink has some cheapo ones for $100-$200.
Be sure and enable security or the camera will be viewable by anyone on the web. Check out these guys in their living room:

i mounted and wired wired camera.. but never set up.. setting up seems pretty easy.. it comes with software so you have to set the camera to the right order..
wireless might be easier and less of a hassle if its both indoor and outdoor… no wires to run. only mounting..
wired is better because you get the connection regardless of wether and location.. as long as you get the cable in..
i dont know where they got it but it was shipped so it was probably from an online retailer..
Best and Cheap are oxymorons, no such thing.
As for the software to use, that would all depend on the video card you have. Different card mfg's use different codecs as well as drivers, most cards come with the software.
All that aside, if you are looking for quality you should go with a standalone embedded DVR instead of a PC based solution. Personally I prefer Linux Units over the gussied up Windows PC units, all a matter of stability. If you do decide to go with a PC based unit, it is best to keep the PC dedicated to the video. Regardless of the power of the system, you will run into memory as well as drive issues if you use the system for every day tasks. Recording video uses alot of resources, Home PC's are not designed to take this kind of abuse, standalone DVR's are… that is their Job, PC's are designed for word processing, software apps and games.
There is more information on Video Surveillance as well as other security related topics on my website. The Video Surveillance article goes through the ins and outs of the technology, it may help answer some of your questions. The URL is http://www.keepsafesystems.ca
OVC and the Spy shop both sell systems that record to Dvds. Some systems are motion detection activated, so you are only recording when the unit picks up something moving. Electricity in our area to run the system is about 5 cents an hour when it is in operation. If you have the type of system you are speaking about, use a backup battery and turn the monitor off and it is not that expensive.
i didnt like the soffet location that is a very weak location ,that my opinion maybe lower an drill into some wood or brick but good video …
How is the security camera at night? Does the led put off a lot of light? Could you upload camera footage from the night? Thanks
Placeing the camera in that position is not going to do much good. If someone breaks in to your house what are you going to see? The tops of their heads is what. You can show the cops that it was a bald guy or what hair color he had. Maybe you should put up a sign that says “look up”. Besides that, good video. I am installing a system myself right now.
No you hook up your system to your vcr I have the same thing & I use the same tape over & over
I don't see why that would be a problem as you are allowed to carry digital cameras, etc… on board. I would suggest that you still check with the TSA http://www.tsa.gov/ they have a complete list of what you can and can not bring on the aircraft with you.
Hope this helps and have a great flight!
I would think that with the way the world is he is preparing for the worst and being smart!..And I would question about whether or not im being paranoid about this situation…but hey that`s just me!
Wireless cameras can work, keep in mind you still require a power source for the camera and the receiver you just free yourself of the wire between the two. Unfortunately they are can get interference worse then a wired camera, as metal and other electronic devices can cause interference. For a business a long term solution would be a hard wired system, for spying on friends etc. wireless would work. Have fun!
Mofukra..I think you are kind of funny. How much would that job cost me if I were to hire you?
